Documents
Documents laid out in pages.
Writer has page layout, headers and footers, and opens Word files.
How it works
Real pages
Choose the paper size, orientation, and margins, or switch to pageless. Rulers set indents and margins. What you print is what the pages show.
Headers, footers, and page numbers
Add a header and footer, with a different first page or different even pages if you need them. Page numbers fill themselves in.
Styles, tables, and pictures
Use headings and named styles, lists, tables, and pictures. Change a style once and every paragraph that uses it follows.
Word and other formats
Import a .docx, Markdown, HTML, or text file. Download as Word (.docx), PDF, plain text, HTML, or Markdown.
Text files too
Open plain text files in Writer's text mode. It keeps the file's encoding and line endings, so a config file or a log comes back the way it went in.
Getting started
- 1
Create or import
Start a new document in Drive, or open a Word file you already have as a Chebu document.
- 2
Write together
Share it with your team. Everyone types at once, and comments sit next to the text they're about.
- 3
Print or download
Print it, save it as a PDF, or download a Word file for someone who needs one.
FAQ
Common questions
Can I open Word documents?
Yes. Open a .docx from Drive as a Chebu document, or import one into a document you already have. You can download any document as a .docx too.
How do I make a PDF?
Choose Download, then PDF, or print the document. Both use the same page layout you see on screen.
Does Writer work offline?
A document you have open keeps working if your connection drops. Your changes are kept on the device and saved when you're back online.
Can I edit plain text files?
Yes. Text files open in Writer's text mode, with find and replace, line numbers, and word count. Downloads keep the file's encoding and line endings.
