Terms of Service
The agreement between you and Chebu when you use our website, apps, mail servers, and API.

About these terms
These terms are an agreement between you and Chebu (“Chebu”, “we”, “us”). They cover the website at chebu.io, the web app at mail.chebu.io, our mail servers, the API at api.chebu.io, and the SMTP relay. Together we call these the services. By using the services you accept these terms.
If you use Chebu for an organization, you confirm you may accept these terms for it, and “you” includes that organization.
Our Acceptable Use Policy and Privacy Policy are part of these terms.
Accounts
- An account used by a child is the responsibility of the parent or guardian who creates or manages it.
- Give accurate information when you sign up and keep it current.
- Keep your password, app passwords, and API keys secret. You are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Tell us at once at support@chebu.io if you think someone has used your account without permission.
The services
- Personal. Every account gets a free workspace with one name@chebu.email mailbox.
- Business workspaces. Paid plans host mailboxes on your own domains. You can use them in the web app or any IMAP and SMTP mail app.
- Transactional email. Business workspaces can send email from their apps through the API and SMTP relay, and receive delivery events by webhook.
We improve Chebu over time. We may add, change, or remove features. If we remove something significant from a paid plan, we will tell you in advance.
Workspaces and roles
Each workspace has one owner. The owner is responsible for the workspace, its members, and its bill. Owners and admins can invite and remove members, manage domains and mailboxes, and change the plan. Only the owner can cancel the subscription or delete the workspace.
Plans, billing, and renewal
- Business plans are monthly subscriptions. Prices and allowances are on our pricing page.
- You pay by card in US dollars or Nigerian naira. The currency stays fixed for the life of a subscription.
- The plan's base price is charged at the start of each period. Your subscription renews automatically until you cancel.
- Usage beyond your plan is billed at the end of the period it happened in: transactional emails past your allowance (per 1,000), storage past your allowance (per GB, at its peak), and extra domains and mailboxes (at the highest number you had).
- Mail sent from mailboxes is not metered or billed.
- Transactional sending stops at a monthly cap, twice your allowance by default.
- Upgrades take effect at once, and we charge the prorated difference straight away. Downgrades change your limits at once and your price from the next period. Your workspace must fit the smaller plan.
- Prices do not include taxes. Chebu does not collect or remit taxes. Any taxes that apply to your purchase are your responsibility.
- If we change a plan's price, we will tell you before it applies to your next period.
Payments are not refundable, including for downgrades and partly used periods, unless the law requires otherwise.
Failed payments
If a renewal payment fails, the subscription becomes past due. We retry the payment over about three weeks. While it is past due, transactional sending is held to your plan's allowance. If the last retry fails, the subscription ends and the workspace is restricted: it cannot send mail or add domains or mailboxes. Your stored mail is kept. Pay the amount due or start a new subscription to lift the restriction.
Free plan storage
When a free mailbox is full, new incoming mail is refused until you free up space.
Acceptable use
You must follow our Acceptable Use Policy. It sets the rules for what you send, who you send it to, and the limits that keep Chebu trusted by other mail providers.
Your domains and recipients
- Only add domains you own or control, and keep their DNS records correct.
- You are responsible for all mail sent from your workspace, including mail sent by its members and through its API keys.
- Make sure everyone your apps email has agreed to receive it, and honour every unsubscribe request and complaint.
- Follow the laws that apply to your mail, including anti-spam and privacy laws.
- You are responsible for your content and for giving your own users any notices the law requires. When you put other people's personal information into Chebu, we process it on your behalf.
- If an API key may have leaked, revoke it right away.
Your content
You own your mail and everything else you put into Chebu. You give us permission to store, process, transmit, and display it only as needed to run the services for you. We do not claim ownership of your content.
Suspension and termination
You can stop using Chebu at any time. The owner can cancel a subscription at any time, and it ends at the close of the current period. A final invoice covers any usage billed at the end of that period. The owner can delete a workspace once its domains are removed and its subscription has ended. To close your account, email support@chebu.io.
We may suspend or limit an account or workspace, for example by pausing its sending, if:
- it breaks these terms or the Acceptable Use Policy
- its bounce or complaint rates cross the limits in the Acceptable Use Policy
- it puts the services, our users, or other people at risk
- payment is overdue
- the law requires us to
Where we can, we will tell you why and how to fix it. We may close an account or workspace for serious or repeated breaches.
Your data when service ends
Before you close an account or delete a workspace, copy any mail you want to keep with an IMAP mail app. After closure we delete your mail and account data. Copies in backups are removed when those backups expire. We keep billing records for as long as the law requires. A restricted workspace keeps its mail so you can restore it or copy it out.
Availability
We work to keep Chebu running and reliable, but we do not promise it will always be available or free of errors. We do not offer a service level agreement unless we agree one with you in writing. We may need to pause the services for maintenance. Delivery also depends on other mail providers, which can delay, filter, or reject messages for their own reasons.
Disclaimers
To the extent the law allows, the services are provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied. This includes warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, Chebu is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses, or for lost profits, revenue, or data. Our total liability for any claim about the services is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.
Changes to these terms
We will update the date at the top of this page when we change these terms. If a change is significant, we will tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using Chebu after that, the new terms apply.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and disputes about them go to the courts of Nigeria.
